Guidelines implementation must for proper management of medical waste
As of the fiscal year 2022/23, Nepal's healthcare infrastructure has expanded significantly since the 2000/2001 report. According to the Nepal Health Fact Sheets 2023, the current distribution of government-run health facilities is as follows:
- Public Hospitals: 215
- Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs): 187
- Health Posts: 3,778
The previous categories of Sub-health Posts have been upgraded to Health Posts, eliminating the former designation.
Regarding healthcare waste management, all healthcare facilities are mandated to adhere to the 'National Health Care Waste Management Guidelines' prepared by the National Health Research Council (NHRC). These guidelines aim to ensure safe and effective management of healthcare waste across the country.
Efforts are ongoing to address these issues and improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services throughout Nepal.
